Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year, and Burlington always has that Hallmark touch you just don’t find often. From cozy markets to sparkling lakeside lights and even a step back in time to a Victorian Christmas, there’s something magical around every corner.

If you’re looking for a little festive inspiration, here are five things to do in Burlington this holiday season that’ll make your December feel extra special.

1. Experience Winter Wonders at the Royal Botanical Gardens

Step into a glowing world of lights and nature at the Royal Botanical Gardens’ Winter Wonders. Hendrie Park transforms into a breathtaking outdoor experience filled with illuminated pathways, artistic light installations, and warm seasonal treats.

It’s one of the most enchanting holiday events in the region — perfect for photos, families, and anyone looking for a little seasonal magic.

When: Evenings from late November through early January (ticketed entry)

Where: Royal Botanical Gardens, 680 Plains Rd West

2. Explore the Burlington Christmas Market (Dec 11 - 14)

New to Burlington this year, the Burlington Christmas Market offers a cozy, European-style holiday experience right downtown. Stroll among festive market stalls, shop from local artisans, enjoy live entertainment, and savour seasonal treats and drinks under twinkling lights.

This is the debut year for this Christmas market and you should go to be a part of history!

When: December 11 – 14

Where: 2030 Caroline Street

3. Walk through the Burlington Festival of Lights

The Festival of Lights at Spencer Smith Park is a Burlington classic. More than 60 themed light displays illuminate the waterfront, transforming it into a sparkling winter wonderland. Bundle up, grab a hot chocolate, and take a leisurely stroll along the lake.

It’s free, family-friendly, and captures Burlington’s holiday spirit beautifully. Go just after sunset for the best glow and fewer crowds.

When: November 28 – January 7, 2026

Where: Spencer Smith Park, 1400 Lakeshore Rd

4. Attend Christmas Performances at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre

If you want to add a little live-theatre magic to your holiday season, the Burlington Performing Arts Centre has several festive shows to enjoy. Two stand out to me. From the classic beauty of The Nutcracker – A Canadian Tradition to the cozy storytelling of A Niagara Christmas Carol, it’s the perfect way to warm up indoors and dive into the Christmas spirit.

When:

The Nutcracker: November 25 & 26 at 7:30 p.m.

A Niagara Christmas Carol: Dec 18-20 at 7 p.m.; Dec 20-21 at 2 p.m.

Where: Burlington Performing Arts Centre, 440 Locust Street

5. Stroll through Downtown Burlington & Village Square

End your holiday adventures with a relaxed evening walk downtown. Wander along Brant Street, where shop windows shimmer with Christmas décor, and continue to Village Square, a charming cobblestone spot lit up with festive lights.

Pop into boutiques for gifts or stop by a café for a warm drink — it’s the perfect way to slow down and soak in the city’s cozy holiday atmosphere. It’s free, local, and full of small-town magic right in the heart of Burlington.

Wrapping It Up

However you celebrate, I hope you take a little time to enjoy the Christmas magic right here at home. Burlington truly shines this time of year — and there’s no better place to make holiday memories that feel straight out of a movie. ||
