Spring is one of the best times to be in Burlington. After a long winter, the city starts to come back to life. The waterfront slowly fills up with people again, patios begin reopening, and parks and gardens slowly start to bloom.

Whether you’re looking for a quiet walk by the lake, a seasonal festival, or somewhere to sit outside and enjoy a meal; there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the weather. From cherry blossoms to maple syrup and waterfront patios, here are five things to do in Burlington this spring.

1. Visit the Cherry Blossoms at Spencer Smith Park

Spring arrives in Burlington when the cherry blossoms bloom along the waterfront at Spencer Smith Park.

The blossoms typically bloom from late April into early May, depending on weather conditions. The peak window usually lasts only one to two weeks, making it a short but memorable seasonal highlight. The soft pink and white blossoms create one of the most scenic walks in the city, especially with Lake Ontario just steps away. It’s a great spot for photos, a picnic, or simply getting outside after winter.

2. Experience "Bloomland in Oz" at the Royal Botanical Gardens

At Royal Botanical Gardens, spring begins indoors with the immersive floral exhibit “Bloomland in Oz.”

Running now until April 6, 2026, this exhibit transforms the RBG Centre into a colorful botanical experience inspired by The Wizard of Oz. Featuring thousands of flowers and themed displays. It’s a great activity for early spring while outdoor gardens are still waking up. It’s especially worth visiting in March or early April when the weather can still be unpredictable.

3. Attend a Maple Syrup Festival

Celebrate maple season at the Maple Syrup Festival taking place at 1016 Waterdown Road, Burlington on March 21–22 and March 28–29. This event is being run by Street Eats Market.

The event features a pancake station, fresh maple syrup, maple drink bars, marshmallow fire pits, and free face painting. It’s a fun way to welcome spring and enjoy a classic Canadian seasonal tradition, whether you’re going with family or just looking for something different to do on a weekend.

4. Take a Lakeside Stroll at Brant Street Pier

Spring is one of the best times to explore Burlington’s waterfront before the busy summer season arrives. Walking along the lake offers fresh air, open views, and a chance to enjoy the city at a slower pace. It can be a little bit chilly in the spring, but if you dress for the weather, you can finally take a walk by the waterfront.

A visit to Brant Street Pier is especially worthwhile, offering panoramic views of Lake Ontario and the shoreline. Whether you’re out for a morning walk, an afternoon break, or sunset views, the waterfront is one of Burlington’s best spring features.

5. Enjoy Patio Season in Downtown Burlington

As temperatures rise, patio season begins to return across the city. The earliest patios typically start opening around April 15, weather permitting, though not every restaurant opens that early. Availability often depends on temperatures and individual restaurant schedules.

Here are five downtown Burlington restaurants with patio options to try this spring:
