Summer in Burlington is all about soaking up the sun, exploring the outdoors, and enjoying the vibrant energy of the community. It's my favorite season in the city! Whether you’re a local or just visiting, here are five fun and memorable things to do in Burlington this summer:

1. Attend the Sound of Music Festival

There’s no better way to kick off summer in Burlington than with the Sound of Music Festival. Running from June 12-15 at Spencer Smith Park, this fun event is the largest free music festival in Canada. The 2025 lineup includes names like Big Wreck, David Wilcox, Steven Page, Tim Baker, and more. It’s not just about the music either—there are food trucks, a lively festival parade, and activities for all ages. The energy is contagious, and the lakefront setting couldn’t be more perfect.

2. Visit the Various Farmers' Markets

Summer is the perfect time to support local farmers and artisans, and Burlington has some great options for doing just that. The Burlington Centre Lions Farmers’ Market is open three days a week and features everything from fresh Ontario produce to homemade baked goods. They will be open until October 25th. Growing up I remember going with my mom to the farmers market every summer.

For a cozier vibe, the Aldershot Farmers Market is a boutique-style Sunday market offering high-quality local products in a charming neighborhood setting. Open until September 28, every Sunday from 9am – 1pm, you should check them out. Whether you’re picking up ingredients for dinner or just browsing, these markets offer a true taste of the community.

3. Explore Burlington's Trails

If you’re looking to stay active while soaking in some natural beauty, Burlington’s trail system won’t disappoint. With over 130 km of paths to explore, there’s something for every level of hiker or casual walker. The Bruce Trail cuts through part of the Niagara Escarpment, offering stunning views and rugged terrain. I love it!

For a more laid-back stroll, the Waterfront Trail hugs the shoreline of Lake Ontario. And if you want a nature-rich experience, the trails at Royal Botanical Gardens let you wander through forests, wetlands, and meadows. We are blessed with the amount of nature we have here.

4. Enjoy Patio Dining by the Lake

When the weather warms up, Burlington’s patio scene comes to life. For a posh lakeside experience, Isabelle Restaurant & Lounge at The Pearle Hotel is a standout, offering Mediterranean-inspired dishes, panoramic lake views, and live music every Tuesday evening. Right in the heart of downtown, One of my favorite spots!

The Garden at 400 Brant is another top pick—this chic spot features garden-style cocktails, great share plates, and an inviting patio that’s perfect for long, lazy summer evenings. Whether you're there for the food, the music, or just the ambiance, these patios deliver all the summer vibes.

There are many more places like this—so be sure to find your spot!

5. Spend a Day at Burlington Beach

No Burlington summer is complete without a visit to our very own beach at Beachway Park. Just west of downtown, this lakeside gem offers a wide sandy beach, bike paths, shaded picnic areas, and a relaxed atmosphere that feels like a mini getaway. Whether you’re into swimming, sunbathing, or just enjoying an ice cream while watching the waves, our beach is a great spot to unwind and take in the natural beauty of the waterfront. You have to do it at least once!

From festivals to food, Burlington has something for everyone this summer. Grab your sunscreen, your walking shoes—or maybe just your appetite—and make the most of everything this lakeside city has to offer. ||
