Tucked away just off the bustling Brant Street in downtown Burlington is one of my favourite little pockets of charm—Village Square. If you’re anything like me and have a soft spot for old-world character blended with modern-day coziness, then this quaint corner of the city will absolutely steal your heart.
Village Square feels like it’s been plucked right out of a European postcard. Although it was developed in the 1970s, visionary developer Jack Friedman dreamed up something magical: a space that would capture the essence of a 19th-century village.
Picture cobblestone pathways, red-brick facades, ivy-covered archways, and vintage-style lanterns lighting your way. It’s romantic, whimsical, and full of storybook charm.
One of the most special buildings here is the Stinson House, a true piece of Burlington history built back in 1850. Today, it’s home to Buvette—a cozy little spot perfect for sipping a mocktail or catching up with friends over a beautiful charcuterie board. Nearby, you’ll also find a replica of Burlington’s very first firehall and The Queens Hotel.

I especially adore the little bell tower—it adds the dreamiest touch to the square, especially when the light hits just right during golden hour. And don’t miss the classic British red telephone box tucked beside the brick walkways—it’s one of the square’s most photographed features and adds such a fun pop of nostalgia.
But Village Square isn’t just a pretty face—it’s buzzing with local life and creative energy. It’s home to over thirty businesses, from stylish boutiques and wellness studios to skincare havens and charming cafés. It’s the kind of place you can wander through slowly, latte in hand, discovering something new each time. I’ve spent many leisurely afternoons here, window shopping, chatting with small business owners, and soaking in the cozy, creative vibes.
Only a block from Spencer Smith Park and the waterfront, Village Square is perfectly located for a full day out. Whether you're in the mood for a peaceful lakeside walk, a bit of shopping, or a meal tucked away in a place that feels like a secret, this little village has it all.
To me, Village Square is more than just a destination—it’s a little haven of calm, creativity, and community. If you find yourself in Burlington, don’t miss this enchanting spot. I have a feeling you’ll fall in love too. ||
