There’s something about the Brant Street Pier in Burlington that always calls me back. Maybe it’s the way it curves into Lake Ontario like a soft little wave, or maybe it’s just the peace it brings. Either way, it’s one of my favorite places to breathe, reset, and just be.

Right at the edge of Spencer Smith Park, the pier stretches 137 meters (450 ft) into the water — not too long, but just enough to feel like you’re stepping away from the world. I love walking out there, especially when the sun’s starting to dip and everything turns golden.

Yes, it's a dream for photos.

She's Got Curves

The pier has this interesting S-shape — it’s so unique, honestly. Halfway down, there’s a circular platform where you can pause and look out over the lake. There’s even a tall beacon that lights up at night. It changes colors, too, it always feels like a little surprise.

Sometimes I’ll grab a coffee from a spot downtown and walk the pier with no real plan. Just wind, water, and the waves.

A little history

Believe it or not, this pier was years in the making. Construction started way back in the 2000s and ran into all kinds of issues — like, crane collapse and budget drama kind of issues.

But she finally opened in 2013, just in time for the Sound of Music Festival. Worth the wait? I think so.

Oh, and the cutest detail? Local kids left their handprints in the cement at the base. I love that. Its like the city literally has tiny memories built into it.

If you go...

📍 Located at Spencer Smith Park, downtown Burlington

  • 🕒 Open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

  • 🚫 No diving, swimming, skateboarding, or motorized scooters

  • ✅ Fully accessible & stroller-friendly

  • 💡 The lights on the beacon change colours for events and holidays

I’d say bring a light sweater if you're visiting in the evening — it gets breezy in the best way. And don’t forget your camera. The golden hour here? Magic.

Why I love it

Brant Street Pier isn’t flashy or loud. It’s calm, intentional, and peaceful. Whether I’m walking it alone or sharing it with a friend, it’s the kind of place that always makes me feel a little lighter.

If you're ever in Burlington and need a slow moment, or just want to stand above the water and stare into the abyss… this is the spot. ||
