How to Decorate an Apartment Patio

Apartment patios or balconies can be quite small. You look at the space, and immediately think, "Man, I can’t really do anything here.” It’s tempting to just leave it empty, however, it’s actually not that difficult to make it a mini oasis for yourself.

There are just a few super basic things you need to add to your small patio to make it feel welcoming and peaceful.

Bistro Set

This is the obvious one. A bistro set, gives you a nice table and two chairs. This provides you with a focal point in your patio. This is where you will do pretty much everything. Eat, drink coffee, play a game, or read a book. You need somewhere to sit. It doesn’t have to be expensive you can get them on sale at the store, or a used set on Facebook Marketplace.

Area Rug

I notice that most people do not think about an area rug. But I feel, just like your indoor spaces need a rug to ground a room and make it feel “together,” so does your patio. Adding an area rug adds texture, pattern and interest to the patio. Of course, you want an outdoor rug that is stain and water-resistant. I got mine from Erbanica.

Plants and Flowers

You need a green plant or a flower sitting around somewhere. This adds that nature aspect and some color to your patio. My patio area already has green shrubbery, so I opted for a pretty lavender flower and set it on my table like a centerpiece. It makes the place so inviting.

Outdoor Lighting

This can be done in a variety of ways. You could add outdoor sconces on the walls of your apartment. You could add a candle. Or add string lighting. Lighting adds a nice ambience, especially when it’s night. It gives it a romantic feel.

This is the start of what you need on your patio. You can layer more to it depending on your tastes and preferences. If you are a gardener, you can add more plants. Or you could add one more extra seat that’s foldable. This way it is practical for a small apartment patio. Have fun with it!
